Earthquake hits Northern Pakistan
North of Pakistan including Islamabad suffered a heavy earthquake rated 7.6 on Pakistani richter scale whereas Japanese are declaring it a 7.8. The earthquake destroyed towns and villages in Northern Pakistan especially in Manshera , Bala Kout, Muzaffarabad and other areas of Azad Kashmir and on the Occupied Kashmir as well. Heavy loss suffered in the regions near to these areas as well. The shockwaves could have been sensed in Kabul and in India's capital New Delhi. The epicenter was in Hindukash region. Some were predicting the center to be 100kms away from Islamabad in north of Pakistan. In Islamabad, an apartment building fell down in such a way that above the ground were only 7th,8th and above that floors were present whereas the floors from 1-5 were below the ground level. The apartment contained approx. 20 houses with 5 rooms in each house and considered to have 100-150 people inside it trapped. Some were saying 200 as well. It was so shocking and at the same time dejected, desponding, woeful whatever you call it...a really painful and sad feeling to look what happened. Every Pakistani was in shock and was in a spirit to help the needy ones. Even today when i am writing this post , 20 hours after the earthquakes, the debris from that Islamabad building is yet to be fully cleared and this is the capital of the city, who knows what has happened elsewhere. This shows we have no plans available for such crisis. No machinery came on exact time but 2,3 hours after that. I wonder this will cause the Corridors of Power to ponder and create some strategic plans for future. May Allah forgive all the sins of those who died and give their relatives courage to face the difficult time (Amen).
I can't help but think this is yet another sign leading towards the zahoor of Mehdi (A.S). We have been witnessing extraordinary number of quakes since the Tsunamis struck last December. Moreover, there have been stronger-than-usual hurricances and floods ... basically record devastation around the world, the same that has been foretold in ahadees.

Present earth quake in Pakistan is a very tregic, i pray for the victim that may Allah Almighty help them and give courge to bear this great loss.

The only thing I have witnessed is the people of Pakistan working overtime to help the victims while army and govt sitting on their asses.
Now I ask one question for Pakistanis, why is you General Musharraf refusing heliborne operations to save Kashmiris? He very well knows, Indians can reach the victims in 30 mins. Then why wait? Is Kashmiri blood cheap in Pakistan? Forget Allah, the plight of Kashmiris is further aggravated by you Army General!!!!

PS: What could be more sensitive then precious lives Mr. General?

Who refused it?. The operations from helicopters are on. Americans and PAkistani helicopters are being used. Germans are giving theirs as well. I dont understand the reason why the government rejected indian offer of helicopters. Kashmiris are being treated with full attention, however some parts of kashmir are yet to be reached because they dont simply have the roads, some of the villages are situated b/w mountains and the only way is to use a helicopter to reach them and that i think is being done. But i agree there are some areas where indians could have reached from the other side much quicker than Pakistani and same goes for the Indian affected areas. Pakistanis could have reached them as well. The biggest problem Pakistan faced is because our soldiers on the areas that are affected by the earthquake are also affected.I think 400 around soldiers of our country got martyred by the quake. Still, Army is doing a tremendous job. They opened blocked roads and are now taking the wounded into bigger hospitals because everything is destroyed in Kashmir.I think the wider picture should be looked at before reaching conclusions.

FM,
Indian Army has lost several men but they are following a soldier's creed where civilians come first. To hell with excuses of Pakistani amry, 1500 children died in Muzafarbad who could have been saved if Indians had gottn there.
Study the map, and read news. All relief supplies are being landed in Pakistan, Islamabad, and Lahore etc, why cant they land directly in Kashmir?
You say now they are paying full attention to Muzafarbad, FM, the epicenter of the earthquake was Muzafarbad not Islamabad. What good are helicopters now that one who could have been saved are dead?
First 24 hours are crucial in such cases. Today Musharraf said he is saddened by late response to Muzafarbad, but he said roads were blocked, well so was the air? Truth of the matter is, military COs in Wazaristan and other places refuse to relinquish the air assets, and that is the truth.
I understand your grief but you cannot deny that Pak govt failed miserably. I am not alone in saying this but why say this correct? I dont know. Good luck to you FM and happy Ramadan

I heard from the Azad Kashmir leader, he said everything is destroyed there. There are no airports where the aid can be directly delivered. Everything is destroyed there, thats a fact. Kashmir contains millions of people. I saw a town being ripped of by the earthquake that contained 25000 people alone in Azad Kashmir. Helicopters are not too much available to Pakistan Army, even i was suprised too hear that but if you have millions of people wounded and dead than it becomes mighty difficult for handful of 50 odd helicopters to give help to each and everyone, but the aid was slow to reach there and thats the saddest part of it.
I am critical of Pakistani Government for not having any action plan to counter such disasters. Every government have plans to counter such catastrophic situations and we simply had none, thats the most significant reason. Natural Calamities are faced by everyone and everyone deals it in a clever manner.
Thanks for your contribution.
I appreciate your feelings for Kashmiris.

The situation is not so simple ... you can't have Indian soldiers crossing the Line of Control and entering Pakistan. No way ...

Yes because of the sensitivity of the area.
